French is on here more as a formality. Being born and raised in Canada where French is our official second language, my first exposure came in grade 9 in high school where one year of French class was mandatory.
I hated that class and when it was over I never wanted to deal with other languages again. Thankfully, that changed when I found a language I actually liked! (Don't worry francophones, I like your language more now than I did when I was 14, I've learned to see more of the beauty in it!)
I have dabbled a bit in French in the last few years, and understand some basic stuff, but don't think I would be able to have even a basic conversation right now. If I was to be immersed I would likely pick it up pretty fast, I just haven't made the effort.
